Although we sell a synergistic blend of skin-benefiting oils, vitamins, and pure cane sugar that gives you renewed, smooth and conditioned skin, I thought it would be fun to give you an at-home recipe to try a Watermelon sugar scrub. It's the recipe I first started out with before I came up with a new formula that could tolerate the shipping process easier. I hope you try it at home.
Ingredients
1/2 cup of your favorite sugar
1 tablespoon of watermelon seed oil (or your favorite oil)
1 teaspoon of watermelon powder*
14 drops of your favorite essential oil
Mix together and rub gently on your body. Rinse thoroughly.
*To make the watermelon powder, remove all the watermelon "meat". Hopefully, you already enjoyed eating it! Rinse and dry the watermelon rind. How much rind you want to make is up to you and how many times you think you might want to make this recipe. I say why waste any of the rinds and prep it all! To dry out the rind you can either dry it in a food dehydrator (the quick option) or lay it out to dry for a few days in the sun or in a warm place in the house. It needs to be dry enough to put it through a grinder. When it is completely dried you can then run it through a coffee grinder or food processor to make it into a powder consistency.
Oils that are good for this recipe if you don't want to get watermelon seed oil, are apricot oil, grapeseed oil, olive oil, or sweet almond oil. All fantastic choices for your skin.
A few facts about the watermelon rind: the rind is filled with lycopene, flavonoids, and antioxidants that are known to lower free radical effects and oxidative stress. It helps minimize the appearance of blemishes, wrinkles, and age spots that are seen as people age.
If you aren't into making this recipe, it's ok! Pick up a jar of our Summer Watermelon Body Sugar and get some rind into your skincare!
